The best new iPad 9.7 deals in June 2017

We’ve been waiting for some time for a new iPad, and Apple surprised us all recently by announcing just that. So, if you’re looking for somewhere to buy the new iPad 9.7, you’re in the right place.

We’ve been waiting for some time for a new iPad, and Apple surprised us all recently by announcing just that. So, if you’re looking for somewhere to buy the new iPad 9.7, you’re in the right place.

The new iPad 9.7-inch model is out now, and you won’t even have to spend as much as you think (which makes a change for Apple, right?).

The price is incredibly cheap for a new Apple product and considerably cheaper than the 9.7-inch iPad Pro 9.7-inch. In the US, prices for the 32GB model started at $329, compared to £339 in the UK. Who needs Black Friday, right?

That’s seriously cheap for a new iPad. It’s actually cheaper than most of the best iPad Air 2 deals now and the new iPad 9.7 is essentially an iPad Air 3 in all but name. Come to think of it, it’s cheaper than most iPad Mini 4 deals too! The short version? If you’re after a good value new iPad, this is seriously worth considering.

How big is the new iPad?

The new iPad has a 9.7-inch retina display. In terms of dimensions, the height and width is the same as the iPad Air 2 (240 x 169.5mm). It’s slightly thicker though at 7.5mm, compared to 6.1mm, which is a bit of a modest increase. It’s also about 30 grams heavier than the Air 2 (about the weight of a bag of crisps).

Where’s the iPad Air 3?

It would seem that Apple is simplifying its lineup, just like we saw recently with the new MacBook range (which seems to have absorbed the Air brand). Seeing as the dimensions and internal spec of the new iPad are very close to the iPad Air 2, you could consider this the spiritual successor.

Is the new iPad more powerful than the iPad Air 2?

Yes, but just a little. The new iPad uses an A9 chip with an M9 coprocessor compared to the older A8x and M8. So more of a fine tune than a radical overall, but an improvement nonetheless. However, don’t assume that means the old iPad Air 2 will be cheaper now…

How much is the new iPad 9.7?

Apple is coming in way cheaper than we expected. Prices in the US will started at $329 for the 32GB Wi-Fi model, while UK customers saw a launch price of £339. As things stand today, that’s cheaper than the iPad Air 2. The 16GB model of the iPad Air 2 seems to have been phased out at most retailers and isn’t any cheaper. So if you’re a new iPad buyer and don’t need the pricey internal spec of the iPad Pro, the new iPad 9.7 is looking like your best option.

Can I put a SIM card in the new iPad?

Yes, but you’ll need to opt for the more expensive cellular/4G model. This is only needed if you want to use data when away from Wi-Fi. At launch, prices for the cellular 32GB model cost $469/£469, with the 128GB model costing $559/£559.

What colors does the new iPad 9.7 come in?

For now, you can buy the new 9.7-inch iPad in Silver, Space Gray and Gold. There’s no mention of a Rose Gold model yet, but we wouldn’t rule one out in the future.

The best cheap GoPro deals in June 2017

No one expected GoPro to be so successful when it invented the action camera back in 2004. But here we are, and here you are thinking of buying one.

These things are the best of the best, but they don’t come cheap – well most of the time at least.

No one expected GoPro to be so successful when it invented the action camera back in 2004. But here we are, and here you are thinking of buying one.

These things are the best of the best, but they don’t come cheap – well most of the time at least. We’ve rounded up all of the best GoPro deals, so that if you do want to buy one, you can make sure you get the best possible price. Our deals are checked every day to make sure all GoPro prices are up to date! We didn’t really see any significant discounts on Black Friday, so we’d jump on any discounts you see rather than wait.

If you’re just after a regular camera deal, be sure to check out our guide to the best cheap cameras.

What’s a good GoPro deal?

Well, that’s up to you. We’ve ordered the GoPros on this page in order of prestige. You can get some seriously discounted GoPro deals if you opt for some of the older models like the 2015 GoPro Hero4 Session, which offers all the best GoPro features but in an easy to use and very affordable model. Naturally, we’ve updated our cheap GoPro deals page with the brand new Hero5 Black and Hero5 Session deals for those of you looking the best GoPro action camera yet.

The Hero5 Black is the GoPro we always wanted. The new waterproof design out-of-the-box makes it more resilient and the new camera has enough to make it a convincing update. The picture quality is better, it finally has video stabilization and the touchscreen makes it easier to use than any other GoPro. Sale items aside, it’s cheaper than most prices for the older GoPro Hero 4 Black now too.

The GoPro Hero5 Session is a capable 4K action camera with a minimalist design that pushes the specs to the max within its cube-shaped confines. The Hero5 Session is also a major specs boost for GoPro’s tiniest action camera. It now shoots stabilized 4K video and has a variety of new field of view modes. It’s more expensive than its predecessor, but worth the upgrade.

The model, simply called the GoPro Hero Session, has replaced the very similar GoPro Hero 4 Session. They’re the same price and considerably cheaper than the most recent GoPro Hero5 Session. Actually, looking around at the various GoPro models, this looks like the cheapest of the lot seeing as the older GoPro Hero is proving hard to get a hold of nowadays. So if you want an entry level GoPro, this could be the one to go for.

Compared to the models before it, the GoPro Hero4 Black offers the best image quality, plus a 2x more powerful processor that delivers super slow motion at 240 frames per second. High-resolution 4K30 and 2.7K601 video combines with 1080p120 and 720p240 slow motion to enable immersive footage of you and your world.

With the arrival of the newer Hero5, expect to see prices drop soon. As things stand many retailers are selling it for more than the Hero5! So it may be worth checking out the deals on the newer model (see above) before opting for this one.

Number 2 in terms of outright awesomeness, the GoPro Hero4 Silver is the first-ever GoPro to feature a built-in touch display. Controlling the camera, framing shots and playing back content is very convenient with this model – just view, tap and swipe the screen.

This GoPro captures 1080p60 and 720p120 video, plus 12MP photos at 30 frames per second. It’s not quite the best, but it is cheaper than the GoPro Hero4 Black above.

Update: No longer available at most UK stores. This model doesn’t record in 4K, but it does offer 1080p 60fps video and 10MP photos at speeds of up to 10 frames per second. Built-in Wi-Fi enables you to use the GoPro App to control the camera remotely, preview shots and share your favorites on Facebook, Twitter and more.

Compatible with all GoPro mounts, you can wear it or attach it to your gear for immersive POV footage of your favorite activities.

7: GoPro Karma Drone deals

Looking to take to the skies with your GoPro camera? There are certainly cheaper camera drones available, but this is one of the best premium setups out there. You can buy the drone on its own (often listed as ‘GoPro Karma Light’ or ‘GoPro Karma with harness’), or get it bundled with the excellent GoPro Hero5 Black camera. We’ve included price comparison charts for both below, but you may be able to save a bit of cash by buying the drone and camera separately (check out the GoPro Hero5 Black deals near the top of this page). You’ll find the best GoPro Karma prices below though.

The best Roku deals in June 2017

In a video streaming world dominated by Netflix, Amazon, Google and Apple among others, Roku is the plucky underdog that continues to hold its own. Now is a great time to get a discounted Roku deal too, proving you don’t have to wait for the Black Friday deals.

In a video streaming world dominated by Netflix, Amazon, Google and Apple among others, Roku is the plucky underdog that continues to hold its own. Now is a great time to get a discounted Roku deal too, proving you don’t have to wait for the Black Friday deals.

The Roku is a media streaming box that plus into your TV via an HDMI port. It turns any old TV into a super smart one, adding Netflix, Amazon, Spotify and Now TV streaming, screen mirroring, game playing and on the latest versions, 4K and HDR playback.

The Roku family is your one-stop shop for all your streaming needs without tying you in to any particular service or app store.

The Roku Premiere+ and Roku Express in particular are two of our absolute favourite living room devices. If you’re thinking of picking one of these up, we couldn’t recommend them more highly. By comparison, you could check out our Chromecast deals.

Here are the best Roku deals currently available…

Roku Premiere+ deals

The best value 4K HDR streaming device

The Roku Premiere+ is the best intersection of value and performance for a 4K streaming player available right now. It’s a capable piece of hardware and the Plus version includes HDR (High Dynamic Range) playback over the older Premiere model (while the Amazon Fire TV only does 4K). An optional ethernet connection enables smooth 4K HDR streaming if your Wi-Fi isn’t quite up to the task. We’re loving the option for private listening via the headphones plugged into the remote too. Note: This Roku was not released in the UK. So don’t expect many (if any) UK prices below.

Roku Premiere deals

An excellent 4K streaming device

This standard Roku Premiere lacks a few key features compared to the Roku Premiere+ above. Say goodbye to HDR and ports for an ethernet connection and MicroSD card. You can’t plug headphones into the remote either. As a 4K streamer, this is a bargain, but we’d advise opting for the Plus model as the aforementioned features are a steal for a few dollars more. You might find 4K streaming a smoother experience when cabled in instead of Wi-Fi too. This Roku was not released in the UK either. So don’t expect many (if any) UK prices below.

Roku Ultra deals

The one with all the features

The Roku Ultra is the most feature-packed of all the Roku media streamers. It has all the quality 4K and HDR streaming and ports of the Roku Premiere+. So what do you get for the extra cash? The remote control gets the most attention on the Ultra as it can be used for voice search, it has extra buttons to make it a handy game controller and there’s even a little speaker to help you find it via a button on the console. There’s also a USB storage slot and an optical out audio port. So, handy extras, but the Premiere+ is arguably better value for money. This Roku was not released in the UK either. So don’t expect many (if any) UK prices below.

Roku 4 deals

Once the Roku champion, now usurped by the Roku Ultra

The 4K-capable Roku 4 is slowly being phased out by the newer Roku Ultra. The two streaming devices are largely similar in terms of features, but the Roku Ultra is arguably the one to go for as it features enhanced sound and allows for HDR (High Dynamic Range) streaming too. With the Ultra generally costing the same, or maybe $15 more at most, we’d go for that one first for a bit of future-proofing. Note: This Roku was not released in the UK. So don’t expect many (if any) UK prices below.

Roku 3 deals

The Roku 3 is the best Roku model available in the UK

Where the Roku 3 really scores is in its wonderful usability, be it the blazing processor speed or the improved functionality the hardware tweaks have bestowed upon it. It’s responsive, simple and not beholden to a proprietary content library. Whether you’re looking for a streaming box to help you cut the cord, or augment your cable subscription, the Roku 3 has the features, build quality and simplicity you’re looking for. US buyers may want to pay a little bit more for the Roku Premiere instead and get 4K streaming.

Roku Express deals

The best entry-level streamer

For US buyers, this is the cheapest Roku family member. The Roku Express is newer and cheaper than the Roku Streaming Stick and does all the same jobs. If you want tot turn any HDMI TV into a Smart TV for as little as possible – this is for you. Although, the Quad-Core enabled Roku Streaming Stick does fun a bit faster. It’s not for you if you live in the UK though, but you can still buy the similar Roku Streaming Stick below.

Roku Streaming Stick deals

It’s a Roku streamer in HDMI-stick form like a Chromecast

It’s not quite as affordable as the Chromecast, but it has more of the apps that people want right now, including Amazon Instant Video. That’s significant because Amazon often has cheaper HD movie rentals than other services. It’s an app you won’t find on either Chromecast or Apple TV. There are a number of new streaming devices out right now, but the the Roku Streaming Stick stands as the most efficient way to make a normal HDTV into a smart TV without springing for a pricier set-top box. At least until the Google Chromecast app list is able to catch up.

Also, if you purchase the plan before June 16, 2017, you get a free 5GB data-only SIM to use as you see fit.

Yomojo| No contracts | 2GB data | Unlimited national calls | Unlimited texts | $19.90 per month | Optus 4G Network

For just a few dollars more than the last SIM only plan, you can get an extra gig of data from Yomojo. Like the Vaya plan, you get unlimited calls and texts within Australia and there are no lock in contracts. It also works off the Optus 4G network, though you won’t get any bonus data for signing up immediately.

Amaysim | No contracts |1.5GB data | Unlimited international calls (select countries) | Unlimited texts (select countries)| $24.90 per month | Optus 4G Network

If you regularly call and text people from other countries, Amaysim’s Unlimited 1.5GB plan might be the one for you. Best SIM-only deals for under $40 a month

Amaysim | No contracts | 7GB data | Unlimited international calls (select countries) | Unlimited texts (select countries)| $39.90 per month | Optus 4G Network

Once again, Amaysim offers unlimited international calls and texts (to select countries), only this time, you’ll get a rather hefty 7GB of data for just $39.90 per month. There are no contracts involved, though the plan will auto-renew every 28 days.

View this deal

Vaya | No contracts | 10GB data | Unlimited national calls | Unlimited texts | $36 per month | Optus 4G Network

With Vaya’s Unlimited XL plan, you get a whopping 10GB of monthly data and unlimited national calls and texts for just $36 per month. While the plan doesn’t offer unlimited international calls, you can add 200 minutes of overseas calls to 100 select countries for just $2 extra per month.

View this deal

Optus | 12-month contract | 12GB data | $300 international calls (select countries) | Unlimited national texts | $40 per month | Optus 4G Network

Though this plan requires you to sign up to a 12-month contract, there’s an awful lot of value included here for just $40 per month. You get 12GB of monthly data, as well as $300 worth of international calls to select countries. Technically this is a 10GB plan, though you get 2GB bonus data if you sign up before June 4, 2017.

View this deal

Best SIM-only deals for under $60 a month

Amaysim | No contracts | 9GB data | Unlimited international calls (select countries) | Unlimited texts (select countries)| $49.90 per month | Optus 4G Network

Another good deal for people who crave international talk time, Amaysim’s Unlimited 9GB offers unlimited international calls and texts (to select countries) and, you guessed it, 9GB of data for just $49.90 per month. Once again, there are no contracts, though the plan will auto-renew every 28 days.

View this deal

Virgin Mobile | 12-month contract | 18GB data | Unlimited national calls | Unlimited texts | $500 international calls and text |$60 per month | Optus 4G Network

Offering a huge amount of data at an appealing price, Virgin Mobile’s $60 SIM only plan is great value for power users. You get a whopping 18GB of monthly data (which rolls over to the next month) and $500 worth of standard international calls and text.

View this deal

Virgin Mobile | No contracts | 11GB data | Unlimited national calls | Unlimited texts | $500 international calls and text |$60 per month | Optus 4G Network

Similar to the previous option, the difference with this $60 per month Virgin Mobile plan is that there’s no contracts to sign. That said, there is a downside in that it only offers 11GB of data per month rather than 18GB. Still, if that sounds like more than enough data for you, then this is a great choice for people who hate contracts.

Should I go SIM-only?

If you a) want to save some money; b) don’t want to be tied into a lengthy contract; or c) both of the above, then going SIM-only is well worth considering. In fact, you’re probably in one of two situations if your thoughts are turning to a SIM-only mobile plan:

You’re coming to the end of your contract and your network is calling you a million times a day to get you to upgrade. Well if your phone is dying a death or you just fancy a change, head to our best mobile phones deal page to see what bargains are lurking, but otherwise going SIM only on your current phone is a no-brainer. You’ll wind up paying much less than you are under contract, and you can stick to a rolling 30 day contract so that if your circumstances change, you can get out of the arrangement tout suite.

It’s time for a shiny new smartphone and you want to get the best value humanly possible. You’ll have to find a few hundred quid up front for the handset (be sure to check our SIM free comparison chart) but box clever and you’ll end up paying less over the next 24 months (see below). Plus, if you’re a commitment-phobe, most SIM-only plans don’t require you to sign up for two years like you would with a normal contract. What SIM card size do I need?

There are three sizes of SIM card that you can get for your phone, and the one you need will depend on your handset. It’s been a while since the traditional, so-called standard SIM (15 x 25mm) has genuinely been the staple in new phones. Instead, any phone you’ve bought within the last five or so years is much more likely to require a micro (12 x 15mm) or nano (8.8 x 12.3mm) SIM – the iPhone 5 was Apple’s first mobile with a nano SIM, while Samsung began using the smallest size in its Galaxy S6.

Before you purchase your new SIM, double-check the manufacturer’s website to see what size you require. And if you’re simply not sure, most networks now simply send out a triple SIM, so you’ll get one of each size.

What contract length should I get?

Unlike with a contract, there’s a lot more flexibility available when it comes to how long your SIM-only plan will last. Two year commitments are virtually unheard of, with the norm being either one year or rolling one month contracts for ultimate flexibility. You can often get better prices if you tie yourself in for 12 months, especially on larger data tariffs. But sticking to one month at a time means that you can effectively hand pick a new plan to suit you every 30 days or so.

How much data do I need?

Because you can change your plan up more regularly than a normal, lengthier contract, it’s less crucial to get this nailed from the start. But if you’re thinking of grabbing a 12-monther or just put a personal pride on getting things right first time, then we’ll help you pick out the sweet spot of data for you.

Firstly, check your phone to see how much data you’ve been using to date, and whether you have the tendency to use more than your current allowance every month. Then, if you’re still unsure, check out our guidance:

0-1GB Tiny amounts of data on SIM only deals could be a blessing or a curse. If you’re putting it in a rarely used phone that will scarcely be away from wi-fi then you’re quids in. But if you end up with one because your head’s turned by the incredible price, then you could end up paying more if you continually go over your allowance.2-3GB For anybody who needs data for little more than the occasional Google Maps route planning, 2GB and 3GB plans come cheap and give you much more freedom to check the football scores and scroll Facebook away from the wi-fi without danger.4-8GB If you can’t leave the house without having a music streaming service like Spotify pouring into your ears, then it might be worth paying for some extra GBs of data.10-16GB This is a significant amount of data and some networks offer it for a very appetising price. Whether streaming music, downloading podcasts, watching social media videos, or all three is your thing – you should be covered.20-30GB Only smartphone junkies that need regular (and hefty) data fixes need bother with this avalanche of GBs. You’ll be able to rinse Netflix, Spotify and online games without too much fear of topping out.Do I need unlimited calls and texts?

Call it practicality, call it greediness, call it what you want – it’s human nature to want ‘unlimited’ anything if offered. But you should think genuinely about whether you really need it in a world where the likes of WhatsApp and Skype let you call and text for free over wi-fi or 4G. If you decide that a few thousand monthly minutes and texts should do you, then you could shave off some cash from your bill.

The SIM-only deals on this page are checked regularly, so make sure you visit often if you want to get the most up-to-date information on the deals that are currently available!

Transatlantic budget airline takes off

BA’s owner IAG launches its new trans-Atlantic budget airline, Level, with its first flight from Barcelona to Los Angeles on Thursday.

Over the next three weeks Level will roll out flights from the Spanish city to San Francisco, Buenos Aires and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

Fares start from £99 one-way and have been on sale since March.

Parent company IAG, which owns Iberia, BA, Aer Ingus and Vueling, said it sold 100,000 tickets in the first month.

BA has been at the centre of controversy following a disastrous computer crash that stranded 75,000 passengers over the weekend.

Critics have said that BA has been relentlessly cutting costs to take on competition from budget airlines. BA denies that this caused the IT problems which it blames on an electrical power surge.

But its owner IAG Group is now pinning its hopes on the new airline to help it compete in an increasingly aggressive trans-Atlantic market.

Pricing structure

Level’s pricing structure is divided into six types of fare. The most basic includes hand luggage only.

The most expensive is Flexible Premium Economy which offers a hot meal, two checked bags, and seat selection. Wifi is available – at prices starting at 8.99 euros.

BA board members expected to push for inquiryCan Cruz keep control of BA?

It will start out with flight and cabin crew from its sister airline Iberia and will create up to 250 jobs based in Barcelona.

IAG chief executive, Willie Walsh, said: “This is just the start.

“In summer 2018 we will have more aircraft and will operate more destinations from Barcelona. We’re also planning to expand Level operations to other European cities.”

Norwegian competition

The competition has ratcheted up since the arrival of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in late 2011. The plane, made from composite materials was lighter, more fuel efficient and cheaper to fly than any of its predecessors. Aerospace analysts considered it a game changer for the airline industry.

The Oslo-based budget airline Norwegian jumped at the opportunities the new aircraft offered. It now has 13 Dreamliners in service with 30 more on order to fly passengers from cities including London and Paris across the Atlantic.

This year Norwegian started offering $65 fares for a one-way ticket between smaller airports in the UK and Ireland to similar destinations in New York state, Providence, Rhode Island, and Hartford, Connecticut.

Crowded market

Level has taken a different tack, opting for the latest Airbus A330 aircraft, designed specifically to compete with the Dreamliner, and fitted with 293 economy and 21 premium economy seats.

But the trans-Atlantic budget air space is about to get very crowded. From July Iceland’s budget airline WOW will be offering flights from London Gatwick, Bristol and Edinburgh to Chicago from £139, and Lufthansa’s Eurowings subsidiary will be increasing its low cost offerings to Orlando, Florida and Seattle.
